Chiropractic care is not only safe for the majority of post-spinal surgery patients, but is highly beneficial. Most spinal surgeries change the biomechanics of the spine, especially spinal fusions. What happens after a spinal fusion is that other areas of the spine must work harder in order to compensate for the decrease in movement at the sight of surgery. That means that those areas that are compensating will be under added stress and have a greater likelihood of developing degenerative arthritis. This degrative arthritis, or degenerative disc disease, is probably why you had surgery. We have many patients that benefit from chiropractic treatments following spinal surgery. However every case is unique and we base our treatments off of each individual presentation. If you have been told by other practitioners that you can not have chiropractic treatments I would encourage you to come in for a consolation so that WE can determine if you are a candiate. Chiropractors are the only practitioners that receive extensive training in the manipulation of joints and the effect on the nervous system. Would you trust an orthopedic surgeon to perform heart surgery on you? I know I wouldn’t.
