Are you feeling sluggish or fatigued at least one time per week? There could be a number of factors, many of which you can control!

1- Diet: Gluten sensitivity can be a culprit. There is a growing body of research to show a strong connection between the gut and the nervous system, commonly refereed to as the brain-gut-connection. In addition to gluten, there may be other foods that you are consuming that are causing your body unnecessary stress. One way to find out what foods may be affecting you is to have a food sensitivity test done.

2- Hormone imbalances: Hormones are the regulators of the human body. When they are in proper ratios and quantities your body will hum like a well oiled machine. When an imbalance occurs you can experience many symptoms, one being fatigue. A simple blood or saliva test can check your hormone levels to determine if there is an imbalance.

3- Tightness/tension/pain: If you are experiencing any physical symptoms your body is not working at 100%. When your body doesn’t work efficiently it takes more energy to do any task or activity. Think of a car that needs a tune-up. It will consume more gas because it is not running properly. Get your body a physical tune-up and see if your sleep improves!

Don’t continue to rely on caffeine or sugar to keep you going. Get your body a tune up instead!

Fatigue is different than feeling tired. Tired: “I stayed up watching 10 episodes of Lost last night, and I am tired today.” Fatigue often looks like this: “I slept 8 hours last night, but I am still dragging today”. Many patients report they’ve had the “best sleep in years” once we start addressing their physical complaints, hormonal imbalances, or dietary toxins. Chronic fatigue can develop when underlying stress is not addressed, and the body becomes incapable of functioning at optimal levels. This is an important time of year to get this problem addressed as we head into shorter days and higher stress levels during the holidays.
